Once a year, citizens are encouraged to attend our academy. is is a chance to see first hand what our officers do in their day to day work, have some hands on experience and get to know our staff.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education is presented by officers assigned to present a curriculum to elementary students about not doing drugs, and making safe and responsible decisions.
Each year, in conjunction with community partners, we host an annual bicycle safety rodeo that is intended to review bicycle safety as well as bicycle riding skills.
The first Tuesday of each August, citizens come together at Alexandria City Park to get to meet each other as well as our staff. There is information provided from a wide variety of community resources in a family picnic environment.
Specially trained police officers carry out their police duties while patrolling on a bicycle. is gives officers a chance to subtly approach different activities happening, but also take enforcement action and educational opportunities while on these bicycles.
In an effort to reduce the likelihood of local students being injured or killed in a crash, we work with a wide variety of organizations to help with a mock crash demonstration to high school students.
Toward Zero Deaths is a grant funded program that we partner with other local agencies for increased traffic enforcement efforts.
Local businesses and the police department partner together in an effort to solve cases and be proactive about issues happening at the stores.
Each year, the Alexandria Police Department organizes this event to help Special Olympics.
We have staff that is trained to assist anyone that has questions about, or wants help with a car seat installation. We have also been awarded grants that allow us to distribute car seats free of charge to those that need them.
The Alexandria Police Department and Alexandria School District 206 work together in a variety of areas, including an officer that works closely with the school district.
Our agency has partnered with a large number of organizations and individuals to assist military members and their families while the military member is deployed and after they return from the deployment.
The Alexandria Police Department partners with several different organizations in the community to provide training to owners and managers of housing rental units. The goal is to reduce the likelihood of criminal activity at that property, thus making it safer for the residents and their neighbors.
