The Alexandria Police Department
has been proud to sponsor a "Bike Patrol" for the last 17 years.
The bike patrol officers dedicate their time to helping youth
develop safe bicycling habits during the summer months. The bike officers
do this through ongoing safety seminars and community events.
The bike patrol has been a cooperative effort between the
Minnesota CEP office and the Alexandria Police Department. The bike
officers have generally been second year law enforcement students who are
looking for some experience in uniformed police work.
The department also has licensed peace officers trained in Uniformed Bicycle Patrol.
These officers patrol the city during the summer months in an effort to control
juvenile loitering, open doors, crowd control at events, and all other investigatory
activities they encounter. These officers have made a number of arrests during their routine patrols.
They work in conjunction with uniform patrol officers who patrol
the city in squad cars.
We are proud of our bike officers and their enforcement efforts which has helped make
the community a safer place.
